On Friday evening, March 10, 2017 a committed group of Eastern Christian School supporters gathered at the Arcola Country Club for the 8th Annual Scholars Dinner. For eight years now, this dinner has been a major fundraising event helping to make a quality Christian education accessible to many who would otherwise not be able to attend Eastern Christian School.
After sharing h’orderves and enjoying an incredible view of the NYC skyline, the guests were directed to the dining room where Tom Dykhouse, Executive Director and Head of School, welcomed them. Pastor Noel Owuor of Powerhouse Christian Church led the group in prayer. Before dinner was served, the guests had an opportunity to hear an in-person testimony from Brandon Chrinian, EC class of 2012. Brandon gave an inspirational speech on the personal impact that his Eastern Christian School education had on his life.
After a dinner, Scholar’s Dinner guests were treated to the speaker for the evening, Dr. Michael Lindsay, president of Gordon College. Dr. Lindsay, who had already spoken that morning at a special chapel at Eastern Christian High School spoke on his many interviews with Christian believers in positions of authority. He spoke on the vital impact that these Christian leaders have had on the world, and how Christian education at schools like Eastern Christian School and Gordon college are raising up the next generation of these leaders.
Next, Donna Chrinian, the Foundation for EC Chairperson, spoke on the joy that her son Brandon’s speech gave her and how all of the sacrifices for a Christian education are worth the investment. Mrs. Chrinian challenged those present to generously support the Variable Tuition program at Eastern Christian School.
Finally, the evening was closed by Pastor Fred Provencher of Cornerstone Christian Church. Pastor Provencher gave a personal testimony about how grateful he was when families and students are members of the Eastern Christian School Community.
